Solar&Spar projects: a success

Since the year 2000, Büro Ö-quadrat, in cooperation with Solar&Spar Contract GmbH, a spin-off of the Wuppertal Institute, has undertaken the climate-friendly renovation of school buildings in four cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

After more than ten years, an interim assessment shows astonishing results: the four schools’ annual electricity purchase could be reduced by over 1.2 million kilowatt hours. The annual heat savings in the four schools amount to a total of about 4.3 million kilowatt hours. What is good for the climate also makes the citizens happy, who have contributed with around 2 million euros in equity capital: all share certificates have a return on interest of more than 5%. Furthermore, the schools and the respective city treasuries are also involved in the success.

Find out just how successful energy performance contracting with citizen participation can be, and which success factors play the decisive roles, in the latest 42-page interim report " Power-saving plants in schools ".
